Como aplicar Tru-Oil PARTE 1

In this video I show one of the methods for applying Tru-Oil to wooden stocks. In future videos, I will show other, simpler, but less aesthetically pleasing methods. I hope you find it useful! WAIT AT LEAST 1st coat............................... 10 to 15 minutes 2nd coat...............................20 to 30 minutes 3rd coat................................2 to 4 days 4th coat................................45 minutes 5th coat onwards..............1 hour WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Tru-Oil (Birchwood Casey) application manual for stocks 1.1 Stock preparation with sanding Sand with 220 grit sandpaper to remove oil from hands, open the wood fibers and even out the shape of the stock. Lightly dampen the stock with water or alcohol to raise the wood fibers. Wait for the water or alcohol to dry and proceed to 320 grit sandpaper. Moisten again, less than the first time. Proceed to 360 grit sandpaper and sand until you have a surface without deep scratches from the previous sanding. 1.2 Application of the first 3 coats of Tru-Oil Apply the first coat using the minimum amount of oil possible, spreading it all over the stock until all the product penetrates the wood. Wait at least 10 to 15 minutes and check for raised fibers. If there are raised fibers, sand with 400 grit sandpaper. When there are no more raised fibers, apply the second coat in the same way. Wait at least 20 to 30 minutes for the second coat to dry. Apply the third coat in the same way. Wait 2 to 4 days for the third coat to dry completely. 1.3 Application of the 4th coat to the final coat Check if the third coat is completely solid. Sand the entire stock with 400 grit sandpaper. Apply the 4th coat in the same way as the previous coats. Wait at least 45 minutes for the oil to dry. Apply as many more coats as desired, waiting at least 1 hour between each coat. For matte finishes, 5 coats will be sufficient. For glossy finishes, 7 to 10 coats will be sufficient. 1.4.1 Final finish with the last coat of Tru-Oil After reaching the desired coat thickness, wait at least 4 days for the oil to cure. Sand gently with 1200 grit sandpaper or finer and apply a final, extremely thin coat. Wait 4 to 7 days for the final finish coat to cure. 1.4.2 Final Polishing Finish Another option instead of sanding with 1200 grit sandpaper and applying a new coat is to manually polish the stock using a thin automotive paste without quick movements. DRYING TIME TABLE BETWEEN COATS AFTER WAITING AT LEAST 1st coat 10 to 15 minutes 2nd coat 20 to 30 minutes 3rd coat 2 to 4 days 4th coat 45 minutes 5th coat onwards 1 hour After applying the 1st coat, wait 10 to 15 minutes to apply the 2nd coat. After applying the 2nd coat, wait 20 to 30 minutes to apply the 3rd coat. After the 3rd coat, wait 2 to 4 days to apply the 4th coat. After the 4th coat, wait 45 minutes before applying the 5th coat. From the 5th coat until the last desired coat, always wait 1 hour between each one, until you are satisfied with the result. After the last coat, wait between 4 and 7 days before handling the stock. Happy shooting to all!
