What Does The Map is Not The Territory Mean

If you spent any time looking into NLP you will have read the saying "the map is not the territory" But, what does it mean? In it's simplest form. Each of us experiences our lives very differently. Even the same 2 people at the same event will have 2 very clear differences about that event. We are deletion machines. We need to be. There is so much external input that we have to shape our own experiences in a way that right for us, or, that's in line with our current thinking. Understanding this key principle allows you to discover appreciate that we all so different. When you start from a place that we are all different you are able to become curious and find out whats important to other people. Regardless of how well a person describes an event or thing/map. It will never be the actual map. Take this simple yet effective principle on board and begin to look through the lens of curiosity and wonder what others are experiencing.
