Do you need the Gardyn Membership? Hydroponic Garden the Easy Way

Is the Gardyn Membership worth $39 per month? In some cases, it might be. One of the key features is the Kelby Smart Assistant, which provides alerts for things like harvest notifications and plant guidance, along with AI-powered monitoring. As an AI Product Manager, I have some expertise in evaluating these kinds of tools, and while Kelby is a great idea, its execution could be improved. However, the skills Kelby offers to help with, like knowing when to harvest, are ones you can learn yourself—Google is perfect for this! For example, I harvest greens like lettuce and kale by picking the outer leaves and letting them grow rather than chopping the whole head. If you check on your garden regularly, you can catch most things yourself. While Kelby’s notifications are nice, the basics like low water alerts are available without the membership. Without it, you can manage with weekly checks—spending 15 minutes trimming, checking roots, looking for pests, or moving plants, and another 5 minutes harvesting anything ready. That said, the membership does come in handy for specific features like vacation mode, which pauses plant growth for up to 14 days (a lifesaver if you forget to fill your tank before a trip!). It also includes seed shipments and member-exclusive plants with great shipping and plant credits. I don’t always keep the membership active, but there are months when it has been worth it for me.
