Flexible rate limiting in a distributed environment
Rate limiting is essential for protecting backend systems, but off-the-shelf solutions don’t always meet all requirements. In this talk Jukka Ala-Fossi, Senior Software Engineer at Wolt, explores how Wolt’s Go-based rate limiting setup has evolved over the years, and how it has helped us keep our endpoints running reliably in a variety of challenging scenarios. This talk was part of the Helsinki Gophers Meetup organized at Wolt in May 2025. Interested in joining our team?
