The 2026 Pre-Cosquín competition marks a milestone in participation and territorial reach, with representatives from virtually every Argentine province. The qualifying rounds took place over successive weekends from September to December, with 56 venues, from the north to Patagonia, reaffirming the competition's strong federal character. The 54th edition will hold its venue winners' competition rounds from January 3rd to 16th, with six music categories and six dance categories, including the female solo malambo category, which debuted in the previous edition with great success. The Pre-Cosquín 2026 finals will be held on Saturday, January 17th and Sunday, January 18th, after which the winners in each category will be announced and will be part of the official program of the National Folklore Festival. In the dance categories, Vidala Barboza, from Salta, a dancer and teacher of folklore and tango; Juan Peletier, from San Juan, a malambo teacher; and Fernando Rodríguez, from Buenos Aires, a dance teacher, choreographer, and member of the Flor de Amancay ballet, winner of the Pre-Festival in 2023.
