Historic Tall Ship Elissa Sets Sail From Galveston for America 250 Celebration
The historic tall ship Elissa has departed the Port of Galveston on its first major voyage in nearly 40 years, setting sail for New York Harbor to participate in one of the nation's largest celebrations marking America's 250th birthday. Built in Scotland in 1877, the Elissa is one of the few authentic tall ships from the Age of Sail still in operation. Following its most extensive restoration and refit in four decades, the vessel will represent Texas and America's rich maritime heritage during the Independence Day festivities. Captain Andy Sellers says the voyage is about more than sailing—it's a tribute to the ships and sailors who helped shape the United States. Organizers say the New York Harbor gathering is expected to be one of the largest tall ship events ever held in the country, making the Elissa's return to open water a historic milestone. _______________ Follow KFDM on social media: KFDM on Facebook: / kfdmnews KFDM on Twitter: / kfdmnews Subscribe to KFDM on YouTube: / @newsonkfdm For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit https://kfdm.com/ Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://kfdm.com/watch Have a news tip?
