On Shijo Street in Kyoto City, 23 floats and portable shrines line the street, and since this morning, many people have been coming to buy chimaki (rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves). From this evening, the summer tradition of "Gion Bayashi" (Gion Festival music) began to be heard. During the Yamahoko procession, this music is played from atop the floats.
