ŞEYH ŞABANI VELİ TÜRBESİ-KASTAMONU

Pir Şaban-ı Veli (may God have mercy on him) was born in the Cimdâr neighborhood of Çakırçayı Village, Gökçeağaç Subdistrict, Taşköprü District, Kastamonu. While we don't have definitive information about Hz. Pir's birth date, museum records list it as 1497. However, a note accompanying this information states that this date is uncertain. However, the fact that his birth date is recorded as 1499 in the Sefine-i Evliya suggests that Pir may have been born in the 1490s. Hz. Pir Şaban-ı Veli (may God have mercy on him) was an orphan because his father died before he was born. His mother died when he was three years old, leaving him an orphan. He spent his later life with a charitable woman. This woman adopted Şaban Efendi as her adopted son and generously supported him financially and spiritually in his education. She even sent him to Istanbul to complete his education. Hz. Pir received his primary education in Taşköprü. He came to Kastamonu to deepen his knowledge of the rational and traditional sciences, particularly the Quran, hadith, and tafsir. However, not satisfied with his education in his hometown, he traveled to Istanbul, the land of knowledge and virtue, and completed his education at the Istanbul Fatih Madrasahs. During his studies, his good character, dignity, and diligence earned him the favor of his teachers. ŞEYH ŞABAN-I VELİ COMPLEX: Built by Seyyid Sunneti Efendi before 1490, the complex includes a mosque, tomb, dervish lodge, library, a water fountain, a fountain, and dervish lodge houses. It is registered with the Foundations Administration. Dergah Houses: The dergah, thought to have been built by the mosque's benefactor around the same time as the mosque, was extensively repaired by Kastamonu District Governor Salih Ağa between 1261 and 1845 on the orders of Sultan Abdülmecid, with the infrastructure renovated and the complex enclosed by a surrounding wall. The two surviving mansions and the museum building in the middle were built by Azdavaylı Mahmut Pasha between 1318 and 1900. The middle building, used as a museum, displays the personal belongings of the Sheikh Şaban-ı Veli, religious and religious orders, and calligraphy by Kastamonu calligraphers. The Mosque: Built by Seyyid Sunneti Efendi before 1490 AD. The mosque's original form is unknown. Between 988 and 1580, Şuca Efendi, the teacher and mentor of Sultan Murad III, expanded the Seyyit Sunneti Efendi masjid and built the mosque in its current form. The mosque was repaired in 1702, 1748, and 1950. It is open to worship. Tomb: It was built by Ömer Kethüda, the Ulema, and the People between 1020 and 1611. Ömer Kethüda began construction during the reign of Sultan Osman, Sultan Ahmed's son. However, construction was left unfinished when Nasuh Pasha executed him for excessive spending and extravagance. It was completed two years later with the contributions of the Ulema and the People. The secondary gate opening to the tomb from the east was built by Vizier Kurşuncuzade between 1028 and 1618, and a section called the harem was added. Library: It was built around the same time as the tomb. Therefore, its benefactor must have been the tomb's benefactor. Today, the lower floor is used as a prayer room, and the upper floor as a community room. Asa Water: Mehmet Feyzi Efendi said, "During Noah's Flood, Gabriel (peace be upon him) took four handfuls of soil from the Kaaba and threw them into four different places on earth. One of these places was the area around Hz. Pir. Indeed, the rocky terrain of the region resembles the rocks of Mecca, and the taste and smell of Asa Water are similar to Zamzam." Şadırvan: Built by Fatma Hanım between 1318 and 1900. It is reported that it was built on the first day of the month of Rajab in 1318.
