GREG BEYER: performs "Spiral I" (1987) by Chinary Ung (b. 1942)

Three musicians from Ensemble Dal Niente: Mabel Kwan (piano), Christopher Wild (cello), and Gregory Beyer (percussion) performing Chinary Ung's first of a series of fourteen "spiral" compositions that have become a central theme of his compositional voice and output. This first work is deeply moving and inspired by Ung's experiences both in and outside of Cambodia during the regime of Pol Pot. It is epic in its scale and in its emotional depth. Performance: September 15, 2012, during the "Imagining Cambodia" International Conference held at Northern Illinois University, at which Chinary Ung was an honored guest.
