Chicago Blackhawks Might Have The WILDEST Schedule In The League!

The Chicago Blackhawks’ 2026-27 schedule is officially here, and this season is loaded with games worth circling right now. It starts earlier than ever on Tuesday, September 29th, with the Blackhawks opening the NHL season in Las Vegas against the reigning Western Conference champion Golden Knights. Chicago gets the nightcap of ESPN’s opening-night tripleheader, a 9:30 p.m. Central puck drop, and an immediate test against one of the league’s best teams. The first 84-game NHL season since 1994 begins with a baptism by fire. Then things get even more interesting. After a stop in Utah, the Blackhawks head to Buffalo on October 3rd for one of the most anticipated games of the entire season. Bowen Byram returns to KeyBank Center just days after the trade that sent the fourth overall pick to the Sabres, while Jordan Greenway also faces his former team and Louis Crevier lines up on the other side. The Patrick Kane situation could make that game even bigger. With Kane’s decision reportedly down to Buffalo and Chicago, October 3rd could feature Kane returning to his hometown rink in a Blackhawks sweater, or facing the team he defined for 16 seasons as a member of the Sabres. Either way, that game is must-watch. The home opener comes Tuesday, October 6th against the St. Louis Blues, with a new 7 p.m. weeknight start time. Most weeknight games at the United Center will now begin at 7, while weekend games will start at 6 or earlier. The Blackhawks also have 11 weekend matinees, making this one of the most family-friendly schedules they have had in years. October gives Chicago a real chance to build momentum. The Blackhawks play eight home games during the month, including a seven-game homestand from October 10th through October 27th. That stretch begins against the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes and gives a young roster valuable home ice while Connor Bedard recovers from shoulder surgery. Bedard’s projected return lands somewhere in early to mid November, which makes the Black Friday matchup against the New York Rangers on November 27th especially interesting. A holiday matinee, a packed United Center, and Bedard potentially back in the lineup could make that one of the best home games of the season. December brings the NHL Global Series. The Blackhawks travel to Düsseldorf, Germany for two games against the Ottawa Senators on December 18th and 20th. Those are Chicago’s only games during a two-week window, creating a rare midseason European trip and a built-in break around the holidays. The holiday schedule also includes the Rangers on Black Friday and a New Year’s Day matinee against the Boston Bruins. Those are two classic Original Six matchups that should bring playoff-style energy to the United Center. January features Chicago’s longest road trip of the year, followed by a 10-day break around the revamped NHL All-Star Weekend. The Blackhawks also visit San Jose twice around that break, setting up two Connor Bedard versus Macklin Celebrini matchups in roughly two weeks. The Sharks then come to Chicago on March 16th for the third and final meeting. That rivalry has been building from the moment Bedard and Celebrini entered the league, and this schedule gives fans three more chances to watch two of hockey’s biggest young stars go head-to-head. If the Blackhawks are still in the playoff conversation late in the season, March will test them. Chicago has two four-game road trips, six divisional games, and a home set against Anaheim and San Jose before St. Patrick’s Day. The season ends Saturday, April 10th at the United Center against the Seattle Kraken, with all 32 NHL teams in action. The hope is that game becomes a playoff tune-up, a final push for positioning, or one last chance for the young core to prove how far this rebuild has come. Vegas on opening night. Byram back in Buffalo. A possible Patrick Kane twist. Bedard’s return window. Germany in December. Bedard versus Celebrini. A season finale at home. Which date did you circle first?
