Historic Floyd County Courthouse Fire: As it Happened

On March 23rd, 2026, at Approximently 2:12PM a fire broke out in the attic at the Historic Floyd County Courthouse in Rome, Georgia. The fire quickly spread, burning most of the building to the ground besides most of the brick. I left work at Chick-fil-A at around 2:20PM and saw heavy smoke coming from downtown. When I arrived downtown, I immediately started filming and stayed for many hours. The Historic Floyd County Courthouse was built in 1892 and has been a Rome landmark. I remember going there as a kid with my dad to buy tags for his car. This is a very tragic loss for our town and I hope at least some of it can be saved. Luckily, no one was injured in the fire, and everyone got out safely.
