Tech That Makes a Difference Practical Tools Improving Autism Services Today
As technology rapidly evolves, autism professionals across clinics, schools, and community programs face an important question: Which tools genuinely improve learning, and which simply add noise? This presentation highlights practical, accessible technologies that meaningfully enhance support for autistic individuals without requiring advanced expertise or expensive systems. Drawing on real-world experience from clinic operations and direct service delivery, this session explores how tablets, apps, digital visual supports, video modeling platforms, and AI-assisted tools can increase engagement, independence, communication, and team efficiency. Participants will learn how technology can streamline data collection, enrich teaching interactions, support naturalistic learning, enhance family communication, and reduce staff workload. Equally important, the session addresses how to maintain a human-centered, ethical, and relationship-driven approach when using technology with autistic learners. Attendees will leave with specific tools they can implement immediately, guidance on avoiding common pitfalls, and a framework for integrating technology thoughtfully and compassionately across settings. This session is designed to spark ideas, build confidence, and help teams leverage technology in ways that truly make a difference. Presented by Meika Valerio, M.Ed., BCBA, LBA
