Alta Via del Sale / Salt Road / Northern Ligurian Route

Join us on one of the most spectacular off-road tracks in the Alps – the legendary Alta Via del Sale, also known as the Salt Road. Once a medieval trade route for transporting salt from the Ligurian coast to Piedmont, today it’s a high-altitude adventure for 4x4 vehicles, motorcycles, cyclists and hikers. The route runs about 30 km between Limone Piemonte and Monesi, winding along the Italian–French border at altitudes between 1,800 and 2,100 meters. Along the way you’ll pass 19th-century forts, the Bosco delle Navette forest, and breathtaking alpine panoramas. In this video, we take you through toll sections, narrow rocky passages controlled by traffic lights, and the most famous bends of the route. No drama – just beautiful views, driving, and the pure atmosphere of the Alps. Would you try the Salt Road yourself? Let us know in the comments!
