COMMENT RECYCLER LE PLASTIQUE ? - Les essentiels de Jamy
What you see here is part of what's called the 7th continent. Well, it's not a real continent. It's actually plastic waste that has accumulated in the oceans, covering vast expanses... Today, it's estimated that around 150 million tons of plastic are floating in the ocean. And it's still going strong. Every year, an additional 8 million tons are added. If we do nothing, by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans. To avoid this happening, we must reduce the impact of plastic waste. It all starts with participating in its recycling. How does this recycling work? Today, transparent or opaque plastic bottles and flasks are recycled: mineral water, milk bottles, laundry detergent containers, etc. These are mostly PET or HDPE plastics. Bottles and containers must be empty, but there's no need to rinse them. Please note: packaging that previously contained automotive lubricants or toxic liquids, such as insecticides or paint strippers, is not affected. This packaging may contain residues of hazardous products that cannot be recycled. They must be disposed of in specialized landfills. Next, it's time for collection. This waste is taken to the sorting center where it is sorted again according to the type of plastic. Then it's compacted, crushed, and cleaned. At the end, we get what we call plastic flakes! These small flakes are reused. They can be used to make new containers or bottles, clothing, quilt or cushion filling, watering cans, garden furniture, car seats... a whole host of other things. Just imagine, with 27 plastic bottles, you can make a fleece sweater! In the future, they even plan to turn them into roads. And what about other plastic packaging, you might ask, like trays, cups, yogurt pots, or even plastic bags? Well, either their composition is too complex or they're too light to be recycled. At least, for now. Because technologies are evolving very quickly, and some cities are even already testing an expansion of sorting guidelines, allowing us to sort all our plastic packaging. In the meantime, waste that isn't recycled can be incinerated, that is, burned. And from the heat, we produce energy. And to help the planet and prevent the 7th continent from expanding, there's another method: reducing our waste. And that means simple actions like choosing reusable packaging or shopping with a cloth bag. Without throwing it away! ####################################### Even more content at: https://education.francetv.fr/ Join us on: Facebook: / francetveducation Twitter: / francetveducation Instagram: / francetveduc Snapchat: / francetveduc
