Introduction to the Technology Integration Matrix Dr. James Welsh FCIT Director University of South Florida This free technology integration model is used in many schools around the world. The TIM keeps the focus on effective, research-based pedagogy rather than solely on technology. James gives a short history of the development of the Technology Integration Matrix and then explains the relationship of the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments (active, collaborative, constructive, authentic, and goal-directed) to the five levels of technology integration (entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion, and transformation). James then discusses the underlying concepts of the TIM including teacher ownership of learning vs student ownership of learning, procedural understandings vs conceptual understandings, conventional use of technology tools vs their complex use, and the instructional focus on tools vs a focus on content.
