URALIC: FINNISH & NORTHERN KARELIAN

Finnish is a Finnic language of the Uralic family, spoken by most people in Finland and ethnic Finns abroad. It is one of Finland's two official languages, along with Swedish. In Sweden, Finnish and Meänkieli (mutually intelligible with Finnish) are official minority languages. The Kven language, also mutually intelligible with Finnish, is spoken by a Finnish-descended minority in Norway's Troms and Finnmark counties. Northern Karelian is a dialect of Karelian Proper, a branch of the Karelian language. It is mainly spoken in White Karelia, Russia, and in Hietajärvi, Kuivajärvi, and Kuhmo in Finland. Among the Karelian dialects, Northern Karelian is the most mutually intelligible with Finnish. This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
