A long, long time ago Ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians ground quartz into magnifiers and Roman Emperor Nero used emeralds as eyeglasses. Humans, who found these inconvenient, refined glass to make convex and concave lenses, and fit them into pieces of wood to make magnifying glasses and because it tired them to hold them with their hands, they added two sticks to invent eyeglasses. Which was still not convenient enough, so they invented contact lenses... and they've gone a step further to invent intraocular lenses, which are lenses you insert inside your eyes.
