In this video, I hop on my Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE to explore one of the oldest, most important, and least-known routes in Spanish history. A route that existed long before roads, long before clear borders, and which for centuries crisscrossed the entire country, transporting wealth, livestock, and power. This isn't just a motorcycle trip. It's a journey through time. Along this route, I discover what the Cañadas Reales (Royal Cattle Trails) were, why they were created, and how they eventually formed a network of thousands of kilometers connecting the north and south of the peninsula. These trails, protected by law since the Middle Ages, were veritable medieval highways along which millions of sheep moved each year. The central focus of the video is the Cañada Real Leonesa Oriental, one of Spain's great historical livestock routes, whose main section ended in Montemolín, making this location a key point in the system. From here, the roads continued south through various branches that led into Andalusia. As I travel by motorcycle through these landscapes, I explain the origin of these roads, their formation over centuries, and why they were so important for the economic development of the Kingdom of Castile. All of this is presented from a historical perspective, but experienced firsthand, following the actual route of the road whenever possible.
