Replacing the antenna amplifier responsible for the alarm and central locking. This is an E61 issue. The problem arises due to a design feature of the station wagon. The antenna amplifier is located under the rear window spoiler in a sealed box, which eventually loses its seal and causes the amplifier to flood. In the sedan, this amplifier is internal, so this problem does not occur. In the E60, it is a different shape, but the number and shape of the connectors are the same. Forums say they are interchangeable. I haven't tried it. You can also resolder the corroded tracks and microcircuits instead of replacing it. This will be significantly cheaper and possibly faster than looking for a replacement.
