Cabbage Town, The History of The Old West Side, Ann Arbor MI

This video explores the founding of the German neighborhood on the West Side of the city of Ann Arbor Michigan, from its humble beginnings in 1846 to the formation of the Old West Side Association in 1968 and up to 1992. The Bloody Second Ward, Little Berlin and Cabbage Town were all names that describe what is today known as Ann Arbor’s Old West Side. The 19th-century buildings and streetscape of the Old West Side neighborhood have been preserved virtually intact; in 1972, the district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), and it is further protected by city ordinances and a nonprofit preservation group. See and hear interviews from past local residents, Ted Heusel, Ed Raab and many other prominent citizens from the Old West Side. This video was produced from1990 to 1995, long before the Digital Age and was the first video I ever made, so take that in mind.
