Celebrating the Life of Jonathan arap Kirui
Today, with gratitude to God and deep sorrow in our hearts, we gather to celebrate the life of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, teacher, pastor, and friend, Jonathan Mongesoi Kirui. We thank God for the gift of his life, the years. He blessed him with, and the lasting impact he made on his family, church, and community. EARLY LIFE Jonathan Mongesoi Kirui was born at Kipkengei, Sigor in Chepalungu Constituency, Bomet County, to the late Jeremiah Tuimising and the late Mary Tuimising. He was also a stepson to Annah Tuimising. He grew up in a large and loving family and was a caring elder brother to the late Joseph Kirui, Paul Kirui, John Kirui, William Kirui, the late Francis Kirui, Eunice Korkoren, Grace Koech (Martha), Richard Kirui, Elijah Kirui, Patrick Kirui,the late Wesley Kirui, and David Kirui. He was also a cherished stepbrother to Joan Rotich, Peter Kirui, Joyce Korir, Janet Tuimising, Walter Kirui, Mercy Tangus, and Aaron Kirui. EDUCATION & WORK LIFE Jonathan began his education at Sigor Intermediate School and later pursued teacher training at Eregi Teachers College. He dedicated his life to the noble profession of teaching and served in several schools, including Mengit Primary School, Kipkeigei Primary School, Kipsingei Primary School, Siongiroi Primary School, Kanusin Primary School, Cheptalal Primary School, and finally Tuiyobei Primary School, where he retired in 1999. As a teacher, he shaped the lives of countless learners through his dedication, discipline, and commitment to education. His influence extended far beyond the classroom and continues to be felt by many who passed through his hands. MARRIAGE AND FAMILY Jonathan married Sarah Chebet Kirui, and together they were blessed with nine children: Charles Soi, Wesley Soi Stanley Soi, Joyce Mutai, Edna Chepkirui, Bernard Soi, Joan Chepkorir, Hillary Soi, Nelly Ronoh He was also a loving father-in-law to Lilian Soi, Janet Soi, Winny Soi, Evaline Soi, and Sherlyne Soi. Jonathan was a devoted husband and father who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He instilled values of hard work, honesty, discipline, faith, and respect, which continue to guide his children and grandchildren today. GRANDCHILDREN & EXTENDED FAMILY He was blessed with 28 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life. Jonathan was son-in-law to the late Samuel Ngaruiya Bore and the late Mary Ngaruiya Bore. He is also fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: the late Stephen Langat, Eunice Maina, David Langat, Florence Langat, Elizabeth Cheruiyot, James Langat, Zakayo Langat, Peter Sawe, Josephine Chelangat, and Nancy Nyarangi. CHRISTIANITY Jonathan was a devoted Christian who accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour and was baptized at Africa Gospel Church (AGC), Tuiyobei Local Church. He faithfully served the Lord through worship, evangelism, prayer, and theological training under the Theological Education by Extension (TEE) program. His Christian faith was reflected in his humility, integrity, compassion, and dedication to serving others. As a pastor and spiritual mentor, he encouraged many people through prayer, counsel, and the teaching of God's Word. He remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life and trusted God even during times of illness and difficulty. TRIBUTE Jonathan Mongesoi Kirui will be remembered as a hardworking, loving, humble, and God-fearing man. He valued family unity, education, service, and faith in God. He touched many lives through his kindness, wisdom, leadership, and unwavering commitment to helping others. Though we grieve his passing, we are grateful for the rich legacy he leaves behind. His teachings, values, and memories will continue to inspire generations to come.
