What's the difference between Textile Design and Surface Pattern Design jobs? Working as a Textile Designer is a little different than working as a Surface Pattern Designer although there is some overlap. Textile Design jobs involve designing soft goods and the construction of the textile or fabric, not just the print or pattern involved although that can be included. Some textile design work is all about the weaving, the warp and weft, the application of a design to a fabric substrate. Surface Pattern Design jobs involve designing only the surface of the product and it isn't necessarily a textile, although it can be.
