Animation Breakdown #01: 'Space Jam' (1996) Review [2018 Reupload]

My review of Space Jam (1996). This video was originally uploaded in March 2018. This was my first ever video on YouTube and it's a bit shitty in retrospect; I probably let the clips from the movie go on for a bit too long and there were probably several unimportant nit-picks and jokes I probably should've cut out - but it's a product of it's time. Also note: This video was originally uploaded several weeks before Warner Bros. Animation announced the new Looney Tunes Cartoons for HBO Max, which debut several years later. I've seen them and I LOVE them. Therefore the whole bit at the end where I go on about how 'the Looney Tunes are DEAD!' might seem a little bit melodramatic - but that is how I felt at the time. The only other things I have changed my mind about are (a) my defence of Hello Nurse in Animaniacs! which in retrospect, is a bit more "complicated" in terms of feminism, and (b) saying that the Looney Tunes were 'timeless' was kind of a weak argument on my part - since there were many cartoons such as Bob Clampett's Book Revue (1946) that are certainly dated. What I should've said in retrospect was something to the effect of: "the original Looney Tunes shorts were MOSTLY timeless, and even when certain shorts WERE dated, they still managed to somehow feel timeless and were enjoyable even if you didn't get the references. Space Jam doesn't." Other than that, my opinions on the film haven't really changed that much and I think points I make in this video in this review still stand. I had to cut down certain clips from the movie for this re-uploaded version due to YouTube's copyright system.
