Spiritual Crossroads: The Rise of African Traditions in Atlanta
Atlanta has emerged as one of the most dynamic epicenters in the United States for the revival and practice of African Indigenous and Diasporic spiritual traditions. Once rooted in West African cosmologies and reshaped by centuries of migration, resilience, and cultural adaptation, practices such as Isese/Ifa, Santería/Lucumí, and other Orisa-based traditions have found fertile ground in the city’s spiritual and cultural landscape. This panel seeks to trace the historical pathways through which these belief systems journeyed to Atlanta and to examine how they have taken root within local communities. By illuminating the ways these traditions continue to evolve, thrive, and spread among Atlanta’s diverse population, this panel discussion underscores the city’s growing significance as a spiritual crossroads and a powerful center for African religious practice in the modern era.
