The Jiangchuan Biota... complex animals in the Ediacaran?!
There has been an extraordinary number of new fossil assemblages described from the Ediacaran in the past year or two... and yet, we're still waiting for the holy grail of palaeontology: a perfectly preserved Late Ediacaran Burgess Shale-type fauna from whenever it was that animals were first diversifying! The Jiangchuan Biota has been known for many years, but almost entirely for its algae. Coillections of very rare, apparently animal fossils have now combined into a new paper, published in Science... and are presented as showing the transition from the Ediacaran to the Phanerozoic.
