Jaundice known as yarkan in urdu is yellow discoloration of sclera of eyes and skin and darkening of urine.    Jaundice happens as a result of high level of bilirubin and this pigment has a yellow colour.    Bilirubin is produced as a result of breakdown of red blood cells after they have got older around after 120 days.   Once broken-down in spleen and bilirubin is released into blood its carried to liver to be processed and ultimately goes out of body through gut.   When either there is excessive breakdown of red blood cells, some damage to liver cells like due to excessive alcohol use or viral infections like hepatitis A,B,C,D or E virus or as a result of obstruction to the outpassage of bile from body like stone impaction in biliary system then again bilirubin gets higher in blood. #Jaundice #yarkan #peelia #drafzal
