Engenharia Civil na Europa: como Felipe B. Simões se tornou Structural Glass Engineer na Holanda
On the EU.Engineer Podcast, we welcomed civil engineer Felipe Bueno Brandão Simões, who currently works in the Netherlands as a Structural Glass Engineer. Felipe currently works with the structural design and calculation of glass systems, overseeing them from conception to execution. In our conversation, Felipe shares his international journey and explains how the opportunity to work in the Netherlands arose – after 7 years living in Portugal, where he completed his master's degree and began his professional career in Europe. He explains that he spent 10 years strategically searching for companies and areas in which he wanted to work internationally. After the pandemic, he resumed applying for positions aligned with the countries and opportunities he was seeking. While still living in Portugal, Felipe received a job offer in the Netherlands for a specific position in the area of glass structures. At the time, he declined the opportunity, but a year later the recruiter contacted him again. Informing that the company was still seeking a professional with a high level of technical knowledge to gradually assume the position of the engineer responsible for the area – who was in the process of retiring after years of service at the company. Felipe's journey shows that building a career outside of Brazil involves years of planning, study, self-knowledge, technical development, and professional positioning, until opportunities truly aligned with your goals begin to emerge.
