Biography of Sir William Arthur Lewis

William Arthur Lewis is the son of George and Ida Lewis. He was one of five children. George died while Arthur was young, leaving the young mother to raise her children alone while owning and managing a boutique. The young William Arthur Lewis displayed intellectual capacity unrivaled by his contemporaries. He completed high school at age 14 and graduated from the London School of Economics at 22. Sir Arthur Lewis won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1979.
