Reham Zare Alrwaitey King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center- Madinah, Saudi Arabia Title: The invisible load of clinical instructors: challenges and solutions Abstract Clinical instructors are vital in assisting novice nurses to become competent and confident when providing patient care. But despite their importance, many of these instructors deal with an “invisible load,” which includes a variety of organizational, emotional, and intellectual challenges that are often disregarded. Some of the main issues that affect both the instructor's performance and the orientee’s outcomes are lack of organizational support, uncertain expectations, inconsistent evaluation processes, emotional demands, and inadequate orientation to the instructor role and responsibilities.1-3 These encounters also demonstrate how difficult it is to maintain a balance between two major responsibilities: protecting patients and overseeing novice staff.4-5 As first steps toward organizational improvement, proposed solutions include standardized feedback tools, a designed orientation program for clinical instructors, and protected time for training.2-4 Drawing from relevant literature and reflective thoughts gained from actual practice, this presentation will discuss clinical instructors’ needs and offer valuable resources targeted at improving instructional effectiveness and supporting their professional growth.
