Bung Hatta's Birthplace is a house built to commemorate and provide a glimpse into the place where Bung Hatta was born and spent his childhood until the age of 11. Bung Hatta's formal education began at the European School (ELS) in Bukittinggi. He then continued his secondary education at the Meer Uitgebred Lager Onderwijs (MULO) or middle school in Padang. He then continued his education at the Prins Hendrik School (PHS) in Batavia, now known as Jakarta. After completing his secondary education, Hatta continued his education at the Handels Hooge School, a trade school in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, between 1921 and 1932. Before he entered secondary education, Hatta spent his childhood at his birthplace, located at Jalan Soekarno-Hatta No. 37, Bukittinggi, West Sumatra. This house was built around the 1860s and uses a wooden structure consisting of a main building, pavilion, rice barn, kitchen, horse stables, and fish pond. The main building serves as a reception area for guests, a family dining room, and the rooms of Bung Hatta's mother, uncle, and grandfather, while the pavilion serves as Bung Hatta's bedroom. Bung Hatta's Birthplace is a historic site and a tourist destination in Bukittinggi City, West Sumatra. As the birthplace of Mohammad Hatta, this house holds historical significance as it is where Hatta was born and spent his childhood.
