Thousands of Haitians protested on Monday in the streets of Port-au-Prince, demanding the restoration of peace to the country, which has been mired in violence for years, eroding public trust in the authorities. Fils-Aimé pledged to address urgent problems through three major promises that, in the eyes of the civilian population and various political sectors, remain unfulfilled or postponed: regaining control of national territory and the free movement of citizens, holding general elections, and mitigating the economic crisis.
