Pere Marquette 1225 Big Steam to Holly

On Sunday, May 17th the history continued to unfold on the Lake State Railway. Pere Marquette 1225 pulled a train consisting of Steam Railroading Institute volunteers from Saginaw to Holly via the old Pere Marquette. This line hasn't seen any PM steam since 1950, and the first time steam has been to Holly since 1981 when C&O 614 pulled Chessie Safety Special trips. The 1225 was also given an opportunity to stretch its legs, something that in recent years it hasn't had the opportunity to do while also gaining some speed, at points reaching 50mph on the way to Holly (not shown). This video is also very sentimental for me, as seeing 1225 in my hometown of Holly is something I thought would never happen and the idea of steam coming around the curve into town is hard for me to comprehend, even after it all went down. Enjoy this very special look at 1225 traveling rails it once called home, introducing a whole new crop of people to the magic and mystique of steam railroading.
