The Interview Mistake That Makes You Sound Junior

You sound junior in interviews. Not because of your experience, but because of how you structure your answers. Here's the one framework that fixes it. After coaching gaming industry professionals for years, I've noticed the same pattern killing senior candidates in interviews. They answer questions with laundry lists. Task after task after task. And the interviewer's brain checks out by item six. It doesn't matter if you have 10 or 20 years of experience. A list makes you sound like you're reciting your calendar, not describing your job. In this video I break down exactly why this happens, what it does to the interviewer's cognitive load, and the specific framework I teach my coaching clients to replace it. I call it the bucket method: instead of listing tasks, you lead with the outcome your role is supposed to produce, then group your work into two or three buckets underneath. It takes about 30 seconds to deploy, and it instantly signals that you think at a senior level. That's because you're showing the interviewer how the work fits together, not just that you do work. I'll walk through four common interview questions side by side so you can hear the difference for yourself.
