Bute Relief Ferries 2021
With the annual overhaul season starting for the winter of 2021/2022 there was a crossover on the two Bute services where both routes would be served by their relief vessels. MV Coruisk would be running the Wemyss Bay to Rothesay service alongside the resident MV Argyle and the Colintraive to Rhubodach service would be served by the MV Loch Alainn. So I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to sail on both these vessels in the same day on different routes from their norm. Having caught the train to Wemyss Bay we passed the cruiseferry Silja Europa which was berthed in the Great Harbour at Greenock for additional accommodation for the COP26 conference before arriving into Wemyss Bay station where the MV Coruisk was waiting. Having taken on stores at Wemyss Bay it allowed me to get some photos of her before boarding her for the sailing to Rothesay. After an enjoyable sailing to Bute it was a short wait at Rothesay before taking a bus to Rhubodach where we met the MV Loch Alainn. After the short two minute crossing we arrived at Colintraive where after a quick lunch stop at the Colintraive Hotel we headed back down to the shore to see the Loch Alainn arriving back in from Bute. After getting photos of Loch Alainn she headed back out to Rhubodach where upon her arrival back into Colintraive I boarded her back to Bute. After another short wait at Rhubodach it was time to board the bus back to Rothesay where upon arrival I headed for a vantage point to see the Coruisk's arrival back into Rothesay (as you'll see from the thumbnail). Once she berthed it was time to board her back to Wemyss Bay and with darkness closing in filming became more difficult and once we arrived into Wemyss Bay it was back on the train to Glasgow with a good day done!
