Celebrating Daisy Voisin, The Queen of Parang / Trinidad & Tobago
Often seen with her signature bouquet of flowers in hand, is the late, great, "Queen of Parang" Daisy Voisin. Daisy's music is listened to year-round, but come Christmastime, hits like "Alegria, Alegria", "Sereno Sereno" and "A La Media Noche" are heard simply everywhere in Trinidad and Tobago. Born in the south of the country in Carapal Erin, just miles away from the Venezuelan border, Daisy became popular singing at the La Divina Pastora R.C. church in Siparia. In 1971, she gained fame at a "Best Village" competition, and by 1973, she felt called to spread the gospel of Parang. Daisy sang with the La Divina Pastora Serenaders, who led by her powerful voice were responsible for some of the most vibrant and memorable live performances of the genres history.
