Palermo: A bordo della linea 1 dopo gli atti vandalici ai Tram

Almost a year and a half since the first Bombardier tram service in the city, the ultra-technological tram deployed by the city administration, runs across Palermo via 23 km of track and four lines, from the central station to Roccella and then from the Notarbartolo station towards Borgonuovo, the Cep (CeP) and Corso Calatafimi. This means of transport has significantly reduced travel time, opening up new mobility opportunities for the suburbs. Last weekend, however, a series of unpleasant incidents involving vehicles on Line 1, which connects the Central Station to Roccella and crosses Corso dei Mille, have caused concern and public alarm. Stones were thrown at passing Bombardiers, but only thanks to the resistance of the vehicles' windows did they not cause injury to passengers or crew. Unfortunately, one of the six trams will remain in the workshop for approximately two weeks to allow for the replacement of the sophisticated panoramic glass damaged by the stone. A worrying but increasingly widespread phenomenon, a woman waiting at the Bombardier stop in the Corso dei Mille area recounted how stone-throwing has almost become a pastime for a group of kids. She declined to comment on camera, but did point out that a stone recently broke the window and entered the room where her son was studying. At the same stop, the remains of a bonfire were found near the tracks and pieces of tiles scattered on the asphalt. It seems that vandalism is almost considered something to be tolerated in the area, yet the general manager of operations, Amat, of the Tram system, is prepared to suspend service if further damage to vehicles occurs due to vandalism, in order to protect the compensation of passengers and drivers.
