Citrus fruits such as mandarins, lemons, limes, sudachi, kabosu, and yuzu do not grow all of their fruit after it has set. The tree naturally drops fruit to an amount that it can grow, according to its own strength. This is physiological fruit drop. Early June is a particularly important time when primary physiological fruit drop begins. During this time of year, heavy rain, sudden changes in the environment, or excessive rainfall can increase the number of fallen fruits. The important thing is not to panic. Adding fertilizer, moving pots, or touching the fruit immediately after it falls can actually stress the tree. At Kanda Citrus Farm, we advise customers to wait until around June 20th before touching their citrus fruits during this period. Once the first physiological fruit drop subsides and the remaining fruits begin to plump up, fruit drop will decrease from then on. Citrus trees generally experience two periods of physiological fruit drop per year. The first period is around early June. The second period is from around July 10th to 20th, and in years with a late end to the rainy season, it can continue until the end of July. If a significant amount of fruit fell during the first period, less may fall during the second period. Conversely, if little fruit fell during the first period, more may fall during the second period. The video explains the physiological fruit drop process for various citrus fruits, including sudachi, lime, Miyagawa Wase, yuzu, kabosu, and amanatsu, while showing actual examples. Lime and lemon, in particular, are quite difficult to stop fruit production from occurring. Just because a lot of flowers bloom doesn't mean they will all turn into fruit. In the case of lemons, it's important for the ovary to produce strong, round, plump flowers; simply having flowers doesn't guarantee fruit production. In the past, there were products like "lemons with flowers," which were marketed with the idea that "because there are so many flowers, it will surely produce fruit." However, in reality, flowers alone often don't lead to fruit production, which can disappoint customers. That's why, in this video, we honestly explain the timing of physiological fruit drop, the reasons why fruit falls, and important points to consider when buying and handling citrus fruits. For potted citrus trees, simply having fruit isn't enough. We apply the techniques used for growing edible mandarins to potted plants, managing them to produce fruit every year, making them enjoyable to look at and delicious to eat. If you see Kanda Citrus Farm products with a rabbit label, we'd be delighted if you'd consider them! This information will be helpful for those growing citrus fruits, those planning to buy potted lemons or limes, and those worried about fruit falling in June. 📄 Description(English) In this video, I explain the first natural fruit drop of citrus trees, which begins in early June. Citrus trees such as mandarins, lemons, limes, sudachi, kabosu, and yuzu do not keep every fruit that sets after flowering. The tree naturally drops some fruit to adjust the number it can support. This process is called physiological fruit drop. Early June is an important timing for the first fruit drop. Heavy rain, sudden weather changes, or environmental stress can increase the number of fruits that fall. The most important thing is not to panic. If fruit is dropping, it does not always mean something is wrong. Adding fertilizer, moving the pot, or touching the fruit too much during this period may put extra stress on the tree. At Kanda Citrus Farm, I usually tell customers to wait until around June 20 before handling or moving citrus plants too much. Onc...
