The Mohitnagar variety of Arecanut is a high-yielding arecanut cultivar originally developed and widely grown in parts of West Bengal, but it performs well in many arecanut-growing regions, including Assam.  Key Characteristics • High-yielding and suitable for commercial cultivation.  • Begins bearing nuts relatively early, often 1.5–3 years after planting when the palm reaches about 2 m height.  • Medium-thick stem with a partially drooping crown.  • Produces orange-yellow, oval to round nuts with good uniformity in size.  • Average dry kernel yield is reported around 3.5–7 kg per palm per year under good management.  Climate and Soil Requirements • Best suited to warm, humid climates with good rainfall. • Requires well-drained soil and adequate moisture. • Sensitive to drought and prolonged water stress.
