VANESSA GAULAIN HUNT, AGENT D'ARTISTE ET GALERISTE NOUS PARLE DE SON PARCOURS (1ère PARTIE)
Vanessa Gaulain Hunt is an artist agent and gallery owner. A specialist in the contemporary art scene in the French West Indies, she opened Creolitan Gallery two years ago, a contemporary art gallery located in a rural area of Baie-Mahault. It serves as a cultural anchor, which she and her collaborator Franck Thevenaud are developing to represent a dozen established artists in a unique exhibition space housed in a typical Creole home. Having arrived in Guadeloupe in 2003 with her partner, artist Jean-Marc Hunt, and their children, she has built an international career with him and developed collaborative projects for the local contemporary art scene. As an independent professional, she has gained significant experience in the field through exhibitions and group projects for emerging and established artists, both locally and internationally, in partnership with public and private institutions. From 2009 to 2012, she organized the international art event Art Bemao under the artistic direction of Jean-Marc Hunt, co-produced with the Baie-Mahault community for three editions. These events brought together numerous art professionals and more than sixty guest artists from the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and West Africa, including Hervé Télémaque, a leading figure in the Narrative Figuration movement. This was followed by collaborations with Martinique, Haiti, the United States, and Europe, which allowed her to develop a well-informed vision for the art market in the French West Indies. She notably coordinated traveling projects such as the remarkable group exhibition Désir Cannibale, which highlighted emerging contemporary artists under 40 based in Guadeloupe who are making their mark on the global art market. In 2024, she collaborated with Jean-Marc Hunt on the Negatalent monographic project at the Clément Foundation, dedicating the 600m² contemporary art building to the artist's work—a first for an artist from the local scene. Today, she continues to pursue her ambitions to develop the art market by strengthening her network of collectors, artists, and professionals to promote and increase the visibility of the contemporary Franco-Caribbean art scene. #vanessagaulainhunt #artistagent #creolitangallery
