Historia del Museo Picasso de Málaga en el palacio de Buenavista
2003. Inauguration of the Picasso Museum in Málaga, located in the Buenavista Palace. The report "History of a Museum" reflects the journey leading up to the inauguration of the Picasso Museum in Málaga, fulfilling the debt owed to the painter since the 1950s, when he wished to donate part of his painting collection to his birthplace. In 2003, one hundred and twenty-two years after his birth, the Museum opened its doors thanks in part to the generosity of his daughter-in-law Christine and his grandson Bernard Picasso. This report by Marisa Jurado, presented by Esther Martín, features interviews with Carmen Giménez (director of the Picasso Museum in Málaga), Christine Picasso (Pablo Picasso's daughter-in-law), Eugenio Chicano (painter), Gabriel Alberca (painter), Maria Paz Temboury (Picasso Museum Málaga Board of Trustees), Victoria Villarejo (widow of Juan Temboury), and Bernard Picasso (Pablo Picasso's grandson). [Program "Los reporteros" 591, October 24, 2003, Canal Sur Television]. In 1953, initial contacts were made with Pablo Picasso (Málaga, Spain, October 25, 1881 – Mougins, France, April 8, 1973) to create a museum in Málaga, but these were not resumed until 1992, coinciding with the exhibition "Picasso Classical." In 1996, an agreement was reached with Christine Ruiz-Picasso, widow of Paul Ruiz-Picasso, the artist's eldest son. In 1998, the agreement for the creation of the Picasso Museum coincided with the inauguration of the restored Picasso home and a major exhibition, "Picasso (1917–1924)," at the Palazzo Grazzi in Venice, Italy (See the article "Picasso Returns to Málaga"). The official presentation of the Museum took place on September 26, 2003, prior to its inauguration on October 27, 2003. Other dates of interest: 1973: April 8. Pablo Picasso dies in Mougins, France.
