MARYADA PURUSHOTTAM — A CELEBRATION OF DIVINITY, DISCIPLINE & DANCE On the evening of 27th May 2026, the prestigious Gyan Manch, Kolkata, came alive with the spirit of devotion, culture, and artistic excellence as Kasba Surer Kheya Dance Festival presented its much-acclaimed production, "MARYADA PURUSHOTTAM – The Supreme Man of Honor and Righteousness." Performed before a discerning and quality audience, the event was graced by eminent luminaries, legendary gurus, distinguished exponents of various forms of Indian Classical Dance, cultural personalities, art connoisseurs, and esteemed guests from diverse fields. Inspired by the timeless ideals of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu and the eternal embodiment of righteousness, dignity, sacrifice, and dharma, the production unfolded as a magnificent journey through dance, devotion, and storytelling. The artistic highlight of the evening was the fascinating and thoughtfully choreographed confluence of Odissi and Kathak. While preserving the authenticity, discipline, and unique aesthetics of each classical form, the presentation created a beautiful dialogue between traditions. Through expressive abhinaya, intricate rhythmic patterns, graceful movements, and powerful visual storytelling, the dancers brought alive the essence of Rama’s life and values, leaving the audience deeply moved and thoroughly mesmerized. The festival was organized by Kasba Surer Kheya, a respected cultural institution dedicated to nurturing excellence in Indian classical arts. Established in 2003 by renowned Odissi exponent Chandrani Ghosh, Kasba Surer Kheya continues to uphold the rich legacy of the Guru–Shishya Parampara while inspiring generations of young dancers through structured training, cultural exposure, artistic discipline, and holistic development. Over the years, the institution has emerged as a vibrant platform where tradition and creativity coexist harmoniously. With Chandrani; Eminent Kathak Dancer & Mentor Souvik Chakraborty performed & co-choreographed the performance. The Festival was Ideated, Conceptualised, Scripted, Co-ordinated & Presented by Eminent Odissi Dancer Sumitra Dey who also anchored the Evening very elegantly.
