Federal Signal 2001-130 Siren Test At Richmond, IL

For this month's outdoor warning siren test, I decided to change my original plans. My first stop was Antioch, where I recorded the Whelen WPS-2910 during the scheduled monthly siren test. After recording the WPS-2910 in Antioch, I headed to Richmond to try to record the Federal Signal 2001-130. Although my original plan was different, I was able to make the trip from Antioch to Richmond and document another outdoor warning siren during the same morning. Outdoor warning sirens are tested on a regular schedule to help ensure they are operating properly and ready to warn people who are outdoors during emergencies such as tornado warnings and other dangerous situations. Remember that outdoor warning sirens are intended to alert people who are outside and should not be relied upon as your only source of emergency information. Before the monthly siren test, I called the Richmond Fire Department to ask who activates the outdoor warning siren. They informed me that the county is responsible for activating the siren system, rather than the fire department itself.
