Each shed can accommodate approximately 1,000 sheep. Feeders are located around the perimeter of the walls. A block is nailed 20-25 cm above the shed to prevent lambs from jumping inside, and there are gaps where the bottom and sides of the shed meet to allow waste to be swept out. An automatic, heated waterer is located in the corner, preventing the water from freezing in the winter. It's designed for only 20 sheep, but it turns out that the ewes, knowing there's always water, start drinking in turns, so one waterer is sufficient. ► The pen is constructed of concreted iron posts, with a concrete base measuring 50x50x200 cm. There is no insulation provided; the sheep overwinter in natural weather conditions. ► Two weeks before the rams are released, the ewes must be prepared: their hooves must be checked and trimmed, they must be dewormed, etc. All procedures must be completed before the release to ensure healthy offspring. ► The sand bedding in the shed is not changed, only removed by tractor. The maternity ward is the same, except an additional 5 cm of sand is removed by tractor, after which fresh sand is added. ► Additional maternity units are currently being built using tried-and-true designs. The construction is being carried out by a team with which the farm has been collaborating for almost fifteen years. ► The maternity units are whitewashed every time the ewes leave. A wedge-shaped feed table is installed here to prevent the ewes from stealing the hay.
