Two children stab Luise (12) to death Two girls, aged 12 and 13, have confessed to stabbing 12-year-old Luise from Freudenberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, to death. The suspected girls and the victim knew each other, police and prosecutors in Koblenz announced on Tuesday. They declined to comment on the motive, citing the children's age of criminal responsibility. It is suspected that "some emotions" played a role. North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister-President Hendrik Wüst (CDU) expressed his shock: "It's devastating." An autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University Hospital of Mainz revealed numerous stab wounds on the 12-year-old's body. Luise bled to death. "We currently do not have a murder weapon," said Mario Mannweiler, head of the Koblenz public prosecutor's office. Police officers searched the area around the crime scene again on Tuesday. The girls suspected of the crime came under investigation because their statements from an initial hearing contradicted those of other witnesses. Neither girl had previously come to the attention of the police. "After more than 40 years of service, there are still events that leave you speechless," said Koblenz Police Vice President Jürgen Süs. Mannweiler described it as a shocking case: "This is not an everyday occurrence." Since the alleged perpetrators are still children, Mannweiler stated that "no criminal sanctions can be imposed because the law prohibits it." The 12- and 13-year-old girls are "in the care of the youth welfare office." The missing 12-year-old Luise was found dead on Sunday near a bike path in Rhineland-Palatinate, directly on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia. On Monday, authorities announced that the child had been the victim of a crime. The schoolgirl was last seen on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. in Freudenberg, when she started walking home after visiting a friend. When the 12-year-old didn't return home, her parents called emergency services after about three hours. A search operation was launched on Saturday involving mantrailing dogs, a helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera, drones, and police and fire department personnel in a very rugged wooded area, it was reported. Following tips, a police dog handler reported the girl's body on Sunday in an embankment area in Rhineland-Palatinate, near the state border. According to Mannweiler, the Siegen public prosecutor's office will soon take over the investigation for "final inquiries." North Rhine-Westphalia's state premier, Wüst, said it was inconceivable and almost unbearable that children could be capable of such acts. "The details described are horrifying," he said. "We wish the family the strength they need to get through this time of unimaginable pain."
