Saxophonist Tries Clarinet for the First Time - What Could Go Wrong?
I'm the lead tenor saxophonist for a swing band, and now I’m learning how to double on clarinet for the first time! As someone who usually sticks to saxophone and piano, this is way outside of my comfort zone; but I'm diving in! In this video, I try to make my first sound on the clarinet, attempt a C major scale, play Hot Cross Buns, and even try soloing over a jazz backing track. Spoiler: it’s squeaky, awkward, and hilarious—but it’s all part of the process! If you enjoy woodwinds or watching musicians challenge themselves and grow, I’d love to have you along for the journey. Drop a comment with your clarinet tips—especially if you’re a doubler yourself!!!
