Hey guess what? GIANT is a utopian American film | reaction and commentary

A vision of America, born out of the civil rights era, looking desperately and vividly into the future. Too damn bad we're sitting here in 2021 and the outlook is grim 😢 Based on the novel by Edna Ferber (Show Boat, Giant, Cimarron), Giant traces the rise and renewal of a Texas dynasty, the Benedicts. Patriarch Jordan "Bick" Benedict (Rock Hudson) falls in love with the tempestuous and sharp Leslie Lynnton. When they return to his ranch Reata, though, Leslie must contend with the strange customs of the lands, as well as the advances of the cryptic and blazing Jett Rink (James Dean, in his final role before his early death).
