Zaboravljeni Slapovići: selo koje čuva uspomene
In the valley of the Jadar River, about fifteen kilometers from Srebrenica, is the settlement of Slapovići. Like other Srebrenica settlements, Slapovići suffered heavily during the war. In July 1995, the village was destroyed, its inhabitants expelled or killed. The mosque was also set on fire. After the war, the Bosniaks of Srebrenica began to return to their homes, including Slapovići. Although not many people returned, they decided to rebuild the mosque. They succeeded in their intention and in 2008 the rebuilt mosque was officially opened. The mosque in Slapovići was built in 1936. It was built by Mula Selim Alemić, who, in addition to building the mosque, endowed the land and built a bridge, a watermill and a mejtef, thereby helping the economic and social development of the area. He endowed 110 dunums of meadows, pastures, arable land and forests. The Vakuf of Mula Selim Alemić is also the largest vakuf in the Srebrenica municipality. At the time the mosque was built, Slapovići was a populated place whose congregation included eight villages: Slapovići, Bučje, Kutuzero, Bijelo Polje, Lipovac, Kasapić, Strane and Sarači. The mosque managed to survive World War II without damage, and regular maintenance work was later carried out on it until the beginning of the war in 1992. At the beginning of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a larger refugee settlement with around 500 wooden prefabricated houses was built in Slapovići, where the population of eastern Bosnia found refuge. At that time, the old road connecting Srebrenica, Goražde and Žepa, which passed through Slapovići, was activated. During that period, the mosque in Slapovići served the faithful, and regular school classes were organized in the mejtef. The mosque served its purpose until July 1995, i.e. until the fall of Srebrenica, when it was set on fire, and the building's outer walls and minaret were damaged. At the same time, the imam's house with a mejtef was badly damaged, and the accompanying buildings in the wider area of Slapovići were completely destroyed - a stone bridge over the Zeleni Jadro, a water mill, as well as residential buildings. The first imam of the mosque was Mula Selim Alemić, who died in 1938. After him, Effendi Jusuf Begić performed the duty of imam, and after his death, after the Second World War, the same duty was performed by Mehmed (Selman) Delić. Efendija Delić performed the duties of imam until the fall of Srebrenica on July 11, 1995, since then he has been reported as missing. In addition to Delic, nine other imams were killed in the genocide in Srebrenica. The mosque in Slapovići was set on fire in 1995, but was not demolished to the ground. The massive perimeter walls, made of crushed stone, as well as the minaret, have been preserved. After returning, the locals decided to restore the mosque. Medija Alemić, one of the returnees, testified that the call to prayer was heard from the destroyed mosque during the night. "When we returned here after the war, there were a few of us women who lived here. We heard the call to prayer several times, even though the mosque was destroyed. They assured us that it was not possible, but I know what we heard. That is why we had an obligation to rebuild the mosque," claims Media. In 2008, reconstruction works were carried out on the mosque in Slapovići, and it is the only mosque in the area of the municipality of Srebrenica that managed to keep its old authentic appearance after the renovation. The outer walls of the mosque are built of crushed stone, and the base of the minaret is covered with tufa stone slabs. During the renovation, the same material with which the mosque was built in 1936 was used. Today, only a few people live in Slapovići, mostly elderly people. During Ramadan, taravih prayers are performed, and Eid prayers are mandatory. (Text: stav.ba) Subscribe by clicking on the link below: https://www.youtube.com/c/AdnanVejzov...
