In this video, we'll talk about three techniques for managing tension in your short story or novel: the pause, the scene, and the summary. These three methods allow you to create the effect of time standing still, the action unfolding in real time, or time racing to reach your desired point. These three speeds combine to effectively manage tension in your writing. If you only use one speed, the reader will tire, which is why it's important to understand all three and know how to use them.
