On the occasion of the 50th anniversary, His Majesty the King bestowed the Collar of the Illustrious Order of the Golden Fleece upon Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias, in a ceremony attended by Her Majesty the Queen, Her Royal Highness Infanta Sofía, Their Majesties King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, Her Royal Highness Infanta Elena, Her Royal Highness Infanta Margarita, Carlos Zurita, Paloma Rocasolano, and Jesús Ortiz. Following a performance of the National Anthem by a string quartet from the Reina Sofía School of Music, the Royal Decree granting the Collar of the Illustrious Order of the Golden Fleece to Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias was read aloud. His Majesty the King then pinned the ribbon with the miniature fleece, symbol of the Illustrious Order of the Golden Fleece, to the dress of Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias. The Princess of Asturias then greeted Her Majesty the Queen, Infanta Sofía, Their Majesties King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, and her maternal grandparents. During the ceremony, His Majesty the King emphasized that “today, the Princess of Asturias receives the Collar of the Golden Fleece, deeply rooted in the history of Spain and Europe. This Order has been awarded for centuries—among others, and particularly—to the Prince or Princess of Asturias from a very young age, so that over time they may gradually learn the traditions and duties of the Crown and understand the responsibilities they will one day have to assume.” King Felipe also addressed the Princess of Asturias, telling her that “receiving this Order of the Golden Fleece entails special responsibilities for you, which you must assume inspired by the deepest values ​​and ideals; values ​​that you must cherish and strengthen in your heart every day.
