For students, learning comes in many forms, hands own, watch a demonstration, or book theory. Providing students with a chance to watch professionals helps with context of a song, key, or in options for their own improvisational skills. This jam session was an opportunity for students witness legends, Alan Haynes, Chris Maresh, and Ernie Durawa play with staff members Ponder East, Don Braden, and Joe Morales. During the 2026 New School of Music Austin’s 11th annual Texas Jazz and Blues camp, students have a unique opportunity to learn throughout the week from top professionals from the jazz and blues scene through small group combos, music theory, and masterclasses. With names like Alan Haynes, Jackie Newhouse, Ernie Durawa, Tom Brectlein, Chris McQueen, Jay Tillman, and Red Young you know it’s going to be a great learning experience.
